Monastery Capriana

Monastery Capriana

For a long period of time it was the headquarters of Moldova’s bishop. It was founded by great Moldovan Rulers such as Stefan the Great. The chronicler Eftinie and one of the first poets of Moldova, Chiprian also lived here. Originally it was constructed completely in wood, later, in 1545, a church for the summer period called "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" was constructed from stone.

During our way to the monastery Capriana, you will pass through some Moldovan villages. The monastery Capriana was Moldova Metropole Premise. It is situated near a village with the same name on the bank of a small lake. During 30 years of communist system the monastery was closed. During this excursion your guide will be a monk, which will lead you through churches of a monastery and will tell to you its history and legends. After the disintegration of USSR the monastery has become a symbol of revival of culture of the Moldovan people.
